Smeg
ovens Technology - Oven purchasers can choose
from conventional ovens, multifunction ovens with 5 to II functions,
combination ovens and those with special functions such as pyrolitic
cleaning or pizza cooking. Materials and components undergo strict
quality control testing. All phases of production and assembly are
constantly supervised by skilled technicians, and every oven is tested
by a special team of technical staff before it leaves the factory.
Pizza function
- The Smeg
ovens S399XPZ6 is a multifunction Classic oven offering the
new pizza cooking facility. In this oven the lower element is circular,
with an enamel cover that can be removed to allow the refractory pizza
stone to be placed directly over the element. The stone heats up very
quickly and efficiently, and a pizza can be stone baked to perfection
in 3-5 minutes. The same stone can also be used to cook flans and
quiches with excellent results.
Smeg
full size combination ovens - The many
functions and options featured in combination Smeg
ovens make them extremely
versatile. Each combination oven is a full size 60cm oven and offers
a comprehensive range of cooking functions, which can also be combined
with either a microwave in the S201X, or with steam in the S302X.
Baking combined with the Smeg
ovens microwave function reduces cooking times
considerably, and saves energy. The steam function also reduces cooking
times, while preserving the nutritional value of the food, offering
an energy-saving and healthy way to cook.
Smeg
ovens Telescopic shelf supports - New accessories
are available for most 60cm built-in Smeg
ovens with chrome shelf supports,
a choice of two sets of telescopic shelf supports, which can replace
the standard supports provided. These telescopic supports allow the
shelves to be extracted extremely smoothly and safely, and add an
extra dimension to the quality of the oven furniture. Please see page
80 for further illustrations.

ovens Functions
UPPER AND LOWER ELEMENT ONLY - This method is
known as "conventional" cooking, and is suitable for dishes that
require a more gentle heat, such as baking. The Smeg
ovens needs to be
pre-heated to the required temperature, and is best suited for single
items, such as large cakes e.g. Christmas cake. Best results are
obtained by placing food in the centre of the oven.
LOWER HEATING ELEMENT ONLY - This Smeg
ovens function is ideal
for foods that require extra base 'temperature without browning,
e.g. pastry dishes, pizza. Also suitable for slow cooking of stews and casseroles.
TOP ELEMENT ONLY - This is used from above only,
and is ideal for foods that are finished off with golden topping
but do not require the full heat from the grill. Dishes such as
Lasagne, potato topped foods, and cheese topped recipes benefit
from this mode.
FAN WITH UPPER ELEMENT - The combination of the
fan and top element provides more uniform heat penetration. Dishes
are lightly browned on the outside and still moist on the inside.
Ideal for au gratin dishes, finishing roasted vegetables.
PIZZA FUNCTION - The simultaneous operation of
these three elements ensures an optimum cooking facility, ideal
not only for pizza but also for cookies, quiches and flans.
CIRCULAIRE - The combination of the fan and circular
element around it, gives uniform heat distribution with no cold
spots. This results in many benefits - no preheat if cook time is
more than 20 minutes, no flavour transfer when cooking different
foods at the same time, less energy is needed, and it cooks at 10%
quicker than a normal oven. All foods can be cooked on this function,
and it is especially suitable for cooked chilled foods.
